Originally formed by the first generation X-Men, X-Factor claimed to hunt mutants; in reality, they taught young mutants to control their powers. After Professor X returned from space, the members of X-Factor rejoined the X-Men and the team became a government
unit led by Havok. The team's roster changed dramatically over time, including the addition of convicted criminals Mystique and Sabretooth. After Sabretooth's rampage and escape, X-Factor lay in ruins. Havok, who had "defected" to evil
and formed the Brotherhood, revealed
that he was undercover and when approached by the time-traveling
X.U.E., agreed to lead them and Shard as the new X-Factor team. In the final moments of X-Factor, Polaris and Multiple Man rejoined the team, but Greystone and Havok were apparently killed
when Greystone's time vehicle exploded.
